At last a Red: Marouane Fellaini finally seals £27.5million move from Everton to Manchester United

By John McDougall

Marouane Fellaini is at last a Manchester United player after the Old Trafford club finally agreed with Everton the Belgian midfielder’s £27.5million transfer.

The 25-year-old has been at the centre of transfer struggle between United and Everton as David Moyes tried to link up with a player he brought to GoodisonPark in 2008.

But the Glaswegian has finally got his man and will represents United’s only reinforcement to the heart of their much maligned midfield.

Fellaini expressed his joy at securing his big money switch to Old Trafford.

“When i was young it was a dream to play for Manchester United. Now I’m here so I’ll try to give my best to the club,” he told the clubs website.

“I want to win trophies. That’s the most important thing.”

The Belgian national team allowed Fellani to delay linking up with them so to allow the midfielder to complete his switch to Old Trafford.

New United boss David Moyes has recieved criticism for his lack of transfer activity since joining the Reds but he believes that acquiring Fellaini is a major coup.

“I have worked with Marouane for five years and I’m delighted he has decided to join Manchester United,” Moyes told the Manutd.com.

“He is a player with great ability and strength and I think he will make a real difference to our squad.”

Fellaini and fellow Everton player Leighton Baines were subject to joint £28million and £36million bids from United over the past few weeks.

Both were initially rejected by Everton, the Merseyside club describing the initial £28million offer as “derisory”.

New Everton boss Roberto Martinez was so infuriated by the speculation that he called for the transfer window to be shut as soon as the Premier League started.

But Fellaini – who scored 33 goals in 177 appearances for Everton – will line up after the international fixtures in a Manchester United shirt.
