Wayne Rooney is making mistake not joining ‘best project in football’, claims PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Wayne Rooney is making a mistake by not joining Paris Saint Germain as the wealthy French giants are ‘the best project in football’, according to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The PSG striker believes his team are ‘the only club to sign for’, should Rooney decide the leave Manchester United.

Yet the Reds have made it clear the England striker is not for sale and a new contract is reportedly in the pipeline.

“Only he knows the decision he is going to make in the summer, but the project we are trying to build here is clear,” Ibrahimovic told Sky Sports.

“We are not content with being the dominant force in France, we want to be the top club in Europe as well.”

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has confessed an admiration to Rooney’s talents – but this week dismissed rumours that they had approached the 27-year-old.

Ibrahimovic said: “I can understand why the owners are interested in Rooney – he is in the top 10 of strikers in Europe.”

However last month Sir Alex Ferguson went as far as to promise that fans would see Rooney don the red shirt again next season.

“He will be here next year, you have my word on that,” Ferguson said.
