‘Hi, we just stole your phone – how do you use it?’: Chadderton knife gang go back to iPhone theft victim for advice

By Danielle Wainwright

A gang of brazen Chadderton robbers attacked and threatened two men for their phone and had the nerve to ask them how to unlock it.

The victims, aged 19 and 21, had been walking from One Stop Shop on Butler Street when they were ambushed by three men who were hiding in nearby bushes on a woodland path from Butler Green to Fields New Road.

The gang then punched the victims in the face and threatened them with a knife. The thugs then stole a set of keys, an iPhone, a bank card and a small amount of cash.

However after walking off, the robbers came back demanded that the victim unlock his phone, which he did.

Detective Constable Ian Stockwell, based at Oldham, said: “These two young men were subjected to a dreadful robbery that left them both bruised and humiliated.

“Not only were they threatened and beaten up, but one of the robbers had the temerity to go back to the victim and order him to unlock the phone he⿿d just had stolen.

“I now want to hear from anyone who can shed any light on who did this. Did you see men fitting this description running away from the scene or have any information?”

One of the offenders was black, about 5ft 11in with a slim build and he spoke with a London accent and wore a light coloured jacket with dark lettering on the sleeve.

His two accomplices were both white. One had dirty blond hair combed to the side and was wearing a sports top with a dark beige triangle running across shoulders.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
