Jailed: Wythenshawe rapist tortured woman with aerosol can because he was terrified of £600 drug debt

By Kenny Lomas

A ‘wicked’ man who imprisoned and tortured a woman with boiling hot tea and an aerosol can in Wythenshawe before raping her was jailed for 18 years today.

Carl Weston, 44, launched the sickening attack when the victim said she did not have enough money to help pay an unpaid £600 drug debt.

Weston, from Fleetwood, Lancashire, beat her repeatedly before dragging her to the sofa where he sprayed an aerosol can in her eyes and threw boiling hot tea on her.

He then strangled and beat her with a dust pan and brush before raping his terrified victim.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, managed to escape the ordeal and confided in a friend who then informed the police.

Weston was convicted of rape, causing grievous bodily harm and false imprisonment after a trial at Manchester Crown Court – he must serve seven years and 330 days before being considered for parole.

The victim was attacked between 11pm and midnight on December 23 2012 while she and Weston were at a house in Wythenshawe.

Weston was said to be extremely agitated because he owed someone £600 and demanded the woman help him pay the money.

When she refused he punched her so hard in the mouth her upper lip split entirely between her lip and her nose.

Detective Constable Siobhan Emmett said: "Weston subjected this woman to a sustained, violent beating.

“He attacked her with an aerosol can, a dustpan brush and hot liquid to inflict the maximum amount of damage and pain before raping her.

"This woman was so badly injured by Weston that she had to cut some of her hair off to remove clotted blood and the tea that had been thrown over her.

"But rather than face up to what he had done, Weston tried to lie his way out of it. He told friends the couple had been attacked by 'gangsters' and even claimed that sterile strips bought to treat the victims split lip were to treat a totally bogus wound he pretended that he had suffered,” he said.

"Of course there was no such wound, only a pathetic attempt to cover his tracks after putting this woman through a terrifying ordeal - and all because he was worried about an unpaid drugs debt.

"His actions were violent, cowardly and wicked and purely to satisfy his own needs. He deserves every second of his prison sentence.

Weston was also convicted of the rape of another woman in the Lancashire area.

The convicted rapist has previous convictions for violence against two former girlfriends and had already been accused of raping a third victim.

Weston was convicted of the false imprisonment of another woman aged 24 in Fleetwood in March 2012 but cleared of rape.

In 2012 he stood trial charged with throttling and raping a fourth woman but was acquitted.

Det Cons Emmett says the victim’s bravery coming forward should encourage other victims of domestic abuse or rape to speak up.

“Sadly, bullies like Weston can force women to suffer in silence. But thanks to a combination of the victim’s bravery and the skills of our police officers, he is now behind bars and cannot hurt anyone else.

"I would encourage anyone who is a victim of domestic abuse or rape to tell the police or confide in a friend who can support them to inform the authorities. Together, we will take positive action and bring domestic abusers like Weston to justice."
