A boy, 16, has been arrested after five masked men armed with a crowbar and machete stormed a Salford home – the THIRD robbery in the area this week.

Police are investigating the latest incident after a spate of robberies in the last seven days, which took place shortly after midnight on Thursday on St Austells Drive, Pendlebury.

The boy has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in police custody for questioning.

The gang stole a large quantity of valuables including mobile phones, games consoles and car keys.

They also attempted to steal two cars from the driveway before five men were spotted fleeing down a narrow alley leading to Bolton Road.

Earlier this week, a Broughton Park family were threatened after a gang held them at knifepoint in their home.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses to the June 5 robbery.

Superintendent Mark Kenny said: “I want to reassure the community that we have a dedicated team of detectives working on the investigation and we have additional police presence in the area, including dog patrols.

“The additional officers will cover the area during the day and night. This will continue for as long as required.

“The level of violence that has been used towards this family is very concerning and I would urge anyone with information about who may be involved to call police.”

Anyone with information should call police on the non-emergency number 111 or 0161 856 5360 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
