Expect sparks to fly! Jamie Carragher promises war of words in Sky pundit role next to ex-Red Gary Neville

They've had their fair share of clashes on the pitch, but now former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes more sparks could fly between himself and ex-Manchester United captain Gary Neville – this time as Sky Sports pundits.

Carragher, who retired at the end of last season, joins Neville on the Sky Sports panel for the start of the new season.

The two were fierce rivals during their playing days and Carragher doesn’t think that the pair will ever lose the passion for their respective clubs.

Carragher told Sky Sports: “He was good to play with because he was a good player, but to play against, he was a nightmare really because he wanted his team to win like I wanted my team to win.

“It should be a great relationship on screen with our different opinions.

“People have different opinions and it's not about one club or another. It's about saying what you believe in and I'm sure that as we're both very passionate people that will come out on screen.”

The pair, who know each other as a result of time spent with the national team, will be working closely as they co-host Sky’s Monday Night Football show, along with Ed Chamberlain.

Speaking about the show Carragher said: “It's a great show. It gets a bit more in depth into the tactical side of the game and that's something I'm very interested in.

“I'm just thankful to be given that opportunity and to work with someone like Gary Neville.

“He has been great on TV and hopefully I can come in and add a bit more to Monday Night Football.”
