Abandoned cats thrown lifeline as Stretford animal sanctuary gifted £30,000 for rehoming

A Stretford animal sanctuary was gifted £30,000 by Support Adoption For Pets after finding themselves inundated by the number of cats needing new homes.

The Society for Abandoned Animals (SAA) plan to build a brand new cat rehoming centre to meet the high demands and help rehome as many pets as they can.

Support Adoption For Pets raised over £1.2million in the last year alone and used it to give struggling rehoming centres like the SAA a helping hand.

Over the past five years the SAA has found new homes for 123 dogs, 341 rabbits and 1,058 cats.

SAA sanctuary manager  Natasha Woest said: “Over recent months we’ve received an incredibly high volume of calls to rehome cats.

“Unfortunately we don’t currently have the facilities to help them all, which is why we’ve been working to secure £80,000 of funding to help us convert several of the unused buildings at our Mosley Acre Farm home into a new cat rehoming facility.”

The SAA is also aiming to open a cattery, which as well as providing a helpful service to local cat owners would raise more money for the centre.

So far the SAA has raised £78,000 of their initial £80,000 goal.

“With the help of Support Adoption For Pets’ donation of £30,000,” said Ms Woest. “We are now well on our way to completing this important project and helping even more cats in the area.”

Amy Wilson, charity manager at Support Adoption For Pets, added: “We were really pleased to be able to help Natasha and her team at the Society For Abandoned Animals.

“Its plans for a cat rehoming centre are very exciting and will mean that the society is able to help even more pets to find new happy homes.”

The SAA is still fundraising, and hopes once they have raised £80,000 for the conversion work to raise a further £27,000 for new cat pens.
