The Italian job: Wantaway Manchester City defenders Maicon and Kolarov attract interest of Serie A duo

By Matt Scrafton

Under-utilised full-backs Maicon and Aleksandar Kolarov are set to end their torrid spells at Manchester City, both being linked with a move to Italy.

According to Italian website vocegiallorossa.it, Maicon will be offered a route out from the Etihad to sign on a season-long loan for AS Roma.

The former Internazionale man has made just nine appearances since joining City at the end of last summer for £3million.

He has struggled to force his way into the City starting line-up, with Pablo Zabaleta and Micah Richards sitting ahead of him in the pecking order.

It is unsure whether or not the Brazilian, who has been capped 66 times by his national side, features in Manuel Pellegrini’s plans.

But it has also been reported by the Daily Mail that City’s new boss is looking to part way with the player and his reported £100,000-a-week wages.

And it is likely the 31-year-old defender will be looking for more game time to try and stake a claim for the Brazil squad ahead of their home World Cup next year.

Roma’s new boss Rudi Garcia is looking to make a number of new additions after a disappointing season last year, where they finished in 6th place and lost the Italian Cup final to city rivals Lazio.

They have also been linked with moves for wantaway Arsenal forward Gervinho.

Meanwhile, another City full-back, Aleksandar Kolarov, is also attracting the interest of Italian suitors – with champions Juventus refusing to give up on his signature.

The 27-year-old is reportedly looking to leave the Etihad after struggling to beat Gael Clichy to the left-back spot.

Juve boss Antonio Conte is prepared to spend £7million to secure the services of the Serb, who made 20 appearances for the Citizens last season.

Apparently the club will reinvest the money raised by the sale of Italy star Emanuele Giaccherini, who is set to sign for Sunderland.
