And I would runway… channel your inner Corrs spirit and help Manchester Airport fundraiser this April

If you’ve ever fancied being superhuman for a day your chance is here to sign up to Manchester Airport’s famous fundraiser ‘Run the Runway’.

Entries are now open for the 2017 edition, a 6km race around the UK’s third largest airport on Sunday April 30 to ease into the May Bank Holiday season.

Organisers have promised that a well-known celebrity will be on hand to greet runners at the finishing line.

The identity of the celebrity is currently a well-kept secret but will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Previous years’ patrons have included England football legend Gary Lineker and TV star Vernon Kay both who happily presented medals and posed for selfies.

Whether you’re a serious runner or a fun runner, the airport race is an exciting and unique opportunity to raise money for two very worthy causes.

Proceeds will go to Flying Start, British Airways’ global charity partnership with Comic Relief, as well as the airport’s charity CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people.

Event organisers encourage fun runners to wear red fancy dress in support of Comic Relief and a prize will be awarded for best costume. There will also be an award for best fundraiser for money raised.

Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place runners and first-place junior (under 16s).

The prizes will include long-haul British Airways flights.

Runners will take to the tarmac on a specially designated route around the perimeter of the airport. The route will include two busy runways as well as a scenic nature trail through the Bolin Valley within ‘spotting distance’ of aircraft landing and taking-off.

Last year’s race raised almost £5000 and saw more than 60 runners take part.

Whilst brave participants are put through their paces on the tarmac, the airport welcome’s family and friends to its fun day event at the Runway Visitor Park.

Budding pilots will be able to experience the thrilling flight simulator ride and take an exclusive tour around the world-famous Concorde.
