Man collapses and dies in Piccadilly rush hour after taking ‘pills’ at Leeds event

A man who collapsed and died during rush hour at Piccadilly Station had taken a number of ‘pills’ at an event in Leeds the night before.

At around 9am on Saturday March 14, officers were called to the station after receiving reports a 24-year-old man had collapsed.

The man was taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary, but sadly died later – with the cause suspected now to be drug-related.

Detective Inspector Philip Housley said: “Firstly our thoughts are with this young man’s family following his death. They have suffered a terrible loss and we will do all we can to give them support and welfare at such a difficult time.

“It is believed this man may have taken a small number of yellow tablets event in Leeds the previous evening. While at this stage we cannot categorically say what his caused this man’s death, I can confirm we are not treating it as suspicious.

“Over the coming days, we will be liaising with our colleagues in West Yorkshire Police and it is important we do not speculate and jeopardise those inquiries.”

Police have launched an investigation but claim they are not treating the death as suspicious.
