Man fends off thugs armed with a shovel and gun after coming home to find housemate cornered

By Danielle Wainwright

A man who returned home to find his housemate threatened by a gang of robbers armed with a shovel and a gun was able to fend them off from his home in Old Trafford yesterday.

The thugs forced their way into the house on Seymour Grove at around 10.30pm but were forced to flee empty-handed through the back garden.

They then drove off in a vehicle parked near the Old Trafford Conservative Club.

Detective Constable Andrew Warren said: "At this stage it is unclear what the men wanted. It appears to be a completely unprovoked attack and was understandably very frightening for the people involved.

"If anyone saw three men in the area or leaving the house around this time please call police. Alternatively if anyone has any information about the incident and who these men are please get in touch and help us with our enquiries."

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 7671 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
