Two callous robbers who broke into an elderly Gorton man’s home and stole his late wife’s wedding ring from around his neck are being hunted by police.
Both attackers threatened to stab and kill the 70-year-old man in the shocking incident which took place around 6.30pm on Wednesday July 23 at the man’s house on Reynolds Drive in Gorton.
The two low-lives burst into his front room and demanded money and valuables and picked up a laptop as they searched the room for valuables.
Before leaving the property one of the men tore the victim’s jumper off his body and snatched a gold chain from around his neck, on which was his late wife’s wedding ring and a half sovereign.
Detective Constable Jackie O’Neil said: “The elderly gentleman who has been attacked has been left shaken and shocked.
“The act of stealing this man’s jewellery from round his neck, in particular his late wife’s wedding ring, is utterly reprehensible.”
“These items of jewellery hold significant sentimental to the victim and he is desperate to have these items returned to him in any way possible.
“If anyone is offered any jewellery of this kind, I urge them to do the right thing and make contact with Police so they can be reunited with their rightful owner.”
The first offender is described as white, around 5ft 6in tall with a slim build and in his late 30s. He also had a disfigured left ear.
The second offender is described as white, around 5ft 10in tall and in his 40s with a large build.
