Storm sign Simmonds for second season

Scott Simmonds has been retained by Manchester Storm for the 2020-21 season, the club announced on Twitter.

Canadian Simmonds joined the EIHL side from the University of Guelph last summer and shone in his debut season with 12 goals and 10 assists in 49 matches.

The 26-year old forward developed a tenacious third line partnership with Cody Thompson and his impressive offensive and defensive output left Storm fighting off teams from across Europe to secure his signature.

Following the announcement, Storm head coach Ryan Finnerty said: “I truly believe Scott is one of the best two-way players in this league. I know he had offers from elsewhere on the continent, but I am delighted to have been able to bring him back to Manchester.”

“He is an easy person to coach, the fans enjoy his style, he loves the city and the versatility he brings to the line-up is unrivalled. I am happy with how things are shaping up so far this off-season.”

Fans were quick to express their delight following the announcement, taking to social media to welcome back a firm favourite:

Simmonds is Storm’s third comfirmed signing this summer, joining fellow forwards Cam Critchlow and Tyson Fawcett on the 2020/21 roster, and his commitment should reassure fans that Elite League action is going to return this autumn.
