‘They’re unbelievable players’: Yaya Toure hopes Manchester City’s summer signings propel title charge

By John McDougall

Manchester City’s midfield powerhouse Yaya Toure hopes the club’s financial muscle and new signings will help wrestle the Premier League title back next season.

The Blues have spent around £100million so far this summer on Spanish internationals Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo, Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho and Montenegrin winger Stevan Jovetic.

And the Ivorian believes the reinforcements will be vital to the Etihad Stadium outfit when the new competitive campaign begin in less than a month.

“It’s very good to see,” he told the Mirror. “They’re unbelievable players.

“They play with their national teams – Negredo, Navas and Fernandinho – and Jovetic is a great young talent, he’s got a fantastic future ahead of him.

“I’m glad all these players have come to the club because we need it and hope this season is going to be fine for us.

“The club want to improve in every aspect and I hope this season is going to be good for us because we know we have a great challenge against Chelsea, Arsenal, United, Tottenham and Liverpool.”

New boss Manuel Pellegrini has not wasted any time in leaving his mark on a City squad he inherited from the sacked Roberto Mancini.

And 30-year-old Toure feels the change is good for the club, with the Chilean’s work and reputation in Spain speaking for itself.

“The new manager comes with a great reputation for what he did in Spain and we’re all working hard to try and deliver what he wants from us,” he explained.

“He’s a very good choice as manager and I hope he will lead us to a lot of success.

“When you change manager sometimes it’s hard because you have to adapt to new methods. But it will be fine.

“This guy is called ‘the engineer’ in Spain because he works so hard to build such good teams. Every manager has his own style.

“Mancini was fantastic, an amazing guy for us, and now we have a new manager who has a different style.”
