Detective Inspector Julie Maxwell from Greater Manchester Police said: "This was a nasty attack in which some innocent patrons were injured and a large amount of damage caused to the pub.

“One pub customer who was completely unconnected to the attack had to go to hospital with quite serious injuries, though he has since been discharged.

“We could quite easily be dealing with a fatal incident.”

Officers have arrested a man on suspicion of affray and Section 18 assault.

A second man has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault and third man has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault, affray and violent disorder.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses who believe they saw the attack to come forward to assist with the investigation.

Det Insp Julie Maxwell added: “We believe there were other people involved in the attack and we would like to ascertain who they are."
