LGBTweet: The best and brightest of Manchester Pride’s Big Weekend told through Twitter

It was another fabulous weekend for Manchester Pride with all the rainbows, love and stars that go hand-in-hand with the annual event.

MM is here with the best of the big weekend from all those who showed their support for the LGBT community to the George House Trust’s vigil for loved ones lost to HIV.

The calm before the storm was captured perfectly by Manchester Piccadilly in this tweet.

And the festivities kicked off – as usual – outside Taurus Bar on Canal Street where the Gaygordons were ‘doing it for themselves’.

Then came the march. Among a great turnout of Priders at this year’s parade were more than just a few key figures.

Tom Hayes, Labour Oxford City Councillor and LGBT Labour National Secretary, tweeted from the event.

And Theresa Griffin, Labour MEP, was ‘delighted’ to be a part of the march.

She was joined by Councillor for Old Moat Ward, Jeff Smith, soon to be parliamentary candidate for Salford Labour, Rebecca Long-Bailey and Elton Councillor James Frith, among others, in representing LGBT Labour in the North West.

The National Transgender Celebration – a weekend festival held every July in the Village – also sent their cat Sparkle on tour to have its picture taken with Pride participants.

As night fell, the stars came out with a tweet from Coronation Street’s Antony Cotton.

Of course, while some celebs showed support by joining the party, many others did so by being stars of the show.

Local stars soulful and energetic MDNGHT and Twisted Tubes both took to the main stage.

Twisted Tubes, who brought their brass band to the Metrolink ahead of the big bash, tweeted: “We had an incredible time at @ManchesterPride last night thanks for having us! Here’s to a good weekend.”

While Manchester Pride posted this video of the crowds going wild in the main arena for MDNGHT.

And music blogger Joe Sparrow was a fan. He said: “I can hear @mdnght_music on the stage at @ManchesterPride from all the way over here in Ancoats… they sound great! (and, I guess, v loud)”

From local to legendary, Lucy Spraggan shared this picture of her in concert for her ‘favourite people’.

One fan, Courtney Trodd, enjoyed Lucy’s cover of a Kanye track so much, she tweeted: “@lspraggan your rapping made my life.”

World-famous 2014 Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst flew in to add a touch of continental glamour to the main stage.

And Misha B was captured by Mancunian professional photographer Carl Sukonik ‘Hitting a ‘Home Run’ on main stage @IamMishaB @ManchesterPride #FeelTheLove’.

Michelle, a seemingly besotted Misha fan, said: “Mett @IamMishaB , she’s beautiful, her voice is amazing, when she pointed at me when she was singing, loveyou “

Even Misha B herself agreed she was most definitely ‘in the zone’.

The weekend was rounded off by the all-important candlelit vigil. The vigil is held as a memorial to all those who have died from HIV and AIDS, but also to raise awareness of the disease to prevent future loss.

It seems a fantastic weekend all around with a great deal of hard work – and hard partying.
