Paul Massey murder: GMP confirm Salford security boss shot dead in ‘targeted attack’

Police have confirmed that the man shot dead in Salford last night was security boss and businessman Paul Massey.

Officers were called to a report of shots being fired at a house on Manchester Road in Clifton at 7:30pm yesterday.

Emergency services attended and found the body of, who police believe is 55-year-old Paul, with gunshot wounds to his body. His next-of-kin have been informed.

Chief Superintendent Mary Doyle said: “Our thoughts are with the family of Paul at this distressing time and we have specially trained officers supporting them.

“We know that shots were fired at Paul and do not believe this was a random attack. We are still working to establish a motive, which is not yet known.”

Police have put extra officers on patrol to reassure the community and urge anyone with information to come forward.

CS Doyle said: “We have extra officers in the area to offer reassurance to the community and if anyone has any concerns, please talk to our officers.

“If you were in the area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously in the minutes before the shooting, or saw anyone leaving the scene, please contact police.

“I would urge anybody with information about what happened last night to come forward. I want to reiterate that any information received will be treated in the strictest confidence.”

Manchester Road is expected to be closed for the rest of the day.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call police on 101, or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
