No deal…yet: Manchester United boss Moyes told he must up Leighton Baines bid for Old Trafford reunion

By Colin Rhodes

New Manchester United boss David Moyes has been told he must up his bid if he is to snatch defender Leighton Baines from former club Everton.

United have had an initial bid of £12million rejected by the Toffees for the England left-back.

Moyes is desperate to capture the defensive star and is certain to return with an improved offer in the coming weeks.

But United are likely to face a fight to land the 28-year-old because Everton are desperate to hang on to their star player who has two-years left on his current deal.

Last season Baines created 116 chances – more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues – and was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for the second successive season.

Reports suggest that Everton boss Roberto Martinez is ready to offer Baines an improved deal to keep him at Goodison Park.

Baines’ potential arrival at Old Trafford could mark the end of Patrice Evra’s United career and see him return to former club Monaco.
