Petrified Salford students barricade living room as thugs smash down door with baseball bat and shovel

Petrified students barricaded themselves into their living room after two men burst into their Salford home armed with a shovel and a baseball bat.

Around midnight, October 27, two men armed with a trench shovel and a baseball bat burst smashed their way through the double glazed patio doors of the Bandy Fields Place house in Higher Broughton.

Once inside the two men chased the terrified students through the house, cornering a man and a woman, both 19, in the hallway, and striking the man twice in the head with the shovel.

He was later treated for non-serious head injuries.

The frightened students then barricaded themselves in the living room while one of the attackers tried to force his way in.

The two men eventually gave up and left the house, smashing the windscreen of a nearby car as they ran up the road.

Detective Constable Sue West, of Swinton CID, said: “At this stage, we are exploring a number of ideas as to why this particular address was targeted.

“No property was stolen, and no demands were made.

“We have spoken to several witnesses who were there at the time, but we need more people to come forward if they believe they saw two men matching the above description in the area at the time.”

Police are now appealing for information regarding the incident.

“If you saw anything, or can offer any information to assist, no matter how insignificant it might have seemed at the time, please get in touch,” Det Const West said.

“Your call could help us take these men off the streets.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5360 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
