Manchester United who? League leaders FC United pay no attention to Old Trafford ordeals

Manchester United may be experiencing a season to forget but one side paying little attention to David Moyes’ first season in the sacred hot-seat is FC United.

The non-league side – owned and democratically run by its supporters – was formed in 2005 after the Glazer family took over Manchester United and fans became disillusioned with the commercialisation of The Red Devils.

Moyes’ disappointing campaign contrasts with FC United who are on a 10-match winning streak and sit top of the Evo-Stik Premier Division as they bid to secure promotion to the Skrill Conference North.

FC United board member Des Lynch feels that results at Old Trafford are irrelevant to Karl Marginson’s men and is hopeful of the club securing automatic promotion.

“What takes place at Manchester United doesn’t really affect us, we are only bothered about how we are doing and it is so far away from our reach that we don’t think about it,” he told MM.

“We just want to build something great here at FC United and we are going the right way about it and feel we can continue."

The league leaders have suffered three consecutive play-off final heartbreaks since the 2010-11 season but Lynch is confident the club can make it to the Conference this term.

He added: “We are hoping we can win the league and get automatic promotion as we have been in the play-offs 3 years on the trot and been beaten so we want to avoid them.

“It will be a nervous wait from now until the end of the season but it is in our hands – we have been playing good football and can hopefully keep it up – it’s all to play for.”
