From Corrie cobbles to Wood Street: Michelle Keegan donates fashion profits to children’s charity

Former Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan is donating profits from her new fashion range to a Manchester children’s charity.

Wood Street Mission, which helps children and families living in poverty in Manchester and Salford, is to receive a ten per cent slice of the proceeds from the actress’ Know Your Worth t-shirt sales.

Michelle, who bowed out of the Manchester-based soap in May, launches her debut fashion range online at retailer Lipsy on Thursday.

Keegan said: “It’s great to be able to support Wood Street Mission which does vital work for children and families living in poverty in Manchester and helps improve their life chances.

“As a local girl who lives and went to school in Salford, it’s good to be able to give something back to the community with such a proactive charity.”

Michelle will visit Wood Street Mission’s Manchester headquarters in the coming weeks when she will meet some children and families helped by the project.

In 2013, the charity worked with almost 3000 families and 7000 children – up for than a fifth on the previous year – and, with Michelle on-board, hope to top those figures this year.

And Wood Street is also holding a 72-hour auction on Twitter for Know Your Worth t-shirt signed by ex-Corrie actress.

Wood Street Mission Chief Executive Roseanne Sweeney said: “Children growing up in poverty often don’t know their worth.

“Not having enough clothes, bedding and toys or being able to afford a school uniform, can have a profound impact on their well-being and self-esteem.

“Michelle’s support will help us in our work providing families who can’t make ends meet with everyday essential items and encouraging disadvantaged children to raise their expectations for the future.”

The Twitter auction will start at 9am on Friday July 4 and the highest bigger at 9am Monday July 7 will win.  To bid, follow Wood Street on Twitter @WoodSt_Mission.
