Manchester hosts UK’s first-ever art jewellery festival

The UK has finally experienced its first ever festival dedicated to showcasing art jewellery – in Manchester.

Manchester Jewellery Week, inspired by the globally renowned Munich Jewellery Week, was held from the 10th to 16thof September, standing as a seven-day-long event in which designers, curators, collectors and observers came from all over to celebrate art jewellery.

Co-founded by Manchester-based jewellers Jo Lavelle and Eve Redmond, the festival aimed to bring together local and international jewellers, boost recognition towards art jewellery, and pay homage to Manchester’s heritage through themed exhibitions.

Eve Redmond said: “Manchester Jewellery week has brought the whole contemporary jewellery world together.

“Loads of visitors have been really inspired – they kind of knew about contemporary jewellery but they didn’t know about art jewellery.”

According to co-ordinators, Manchester Jewellery Week will be a biennial event, making its return in 2028.
