Watch: Oasis homecoming sparks summer of music in Manchester

A summer of music which includes the Oasis comeback tour was kickstarted at a launch event in Piccadilly Gardens.

MCR Live ’25 has seen part of the city centre transformed into a vibrant venue featuring a DJ, bars, and well-known restaurants operating food stalls.

The project celebrates not only the Oasis homecoming events in Manchester but a whole three months of live music across the city.

An estimated 1.3 million tourists are expected to visit Manchester this summer, with a major draw being the Oasis tour alongside performances by other artists.

The initiative will run until 28 September.

Garry Bridges, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council, said: “Manchester is a proud musical city. Everyone knows Manchester for its music scene. This summer will be one of the biggest summers we’ve ever had for live music.

“With 1.3 million music tourists expected in Manchester this summer, along with the historic homecoming Oasis dates in Heaton Park coming up next week, the economic impact on the city will be significant – with bars, clubs, restaurants, shops and hotels all set to benefit.”

John Lowery from MCR Live Hub said: “After months of hard work, we’re thrilled to be opening the doors to The Hub today. We’re delighted to be part of MCR Live ’25, and our open-air venue in the heart of the city is the perfect spot to visit with friends and family this summer.”

Alongside the MCR Live Hub, Music for the Senses has also launched — an art trail spreading artwork across the city. It includes guitar-themed pieces, exhibitions, and pop-up shops.

Julie Gaskell, Head of Partnerships at Wild in Art, said: “I can’t wait for people to see the trail and get involved. It’s a brilliant chance for people to explore Manchester’s musical heritage whilst discovering some stunning pieces of art right across the city, painted by fantastically talented artists and placed in all kinds of locations – from grassroots music venues to shop windows and even a railway station. And all for free!”

One of the standout locations is St Peter’s Square, where a huge guitar sculpture made up of multiple individual guitars has been installed. The square is also home to an Oasis merchandise pop-up shop and food stalls, drawing in fans and passers-by throughout the day.

With big crowds expected over the coming weeks, both locals and visitors will have plenty to see and do in the city — whether it’s soaking up the atmosphere at The Hub or following the art trail through Manchester’s musical landmarks.
