A new collection of contemporary artwork has gone on display at the Manchester Art Gallery this week.

Eight pieces of art were purchased by the Gallery with the help of The Manchester Contemporary Art Fund, a philanthropic fund that enables the gallery to buy new pieces of artwork to add to their permanent collection.

This year’s additions included:

  • The grease marks left by a passenger’s hair on the bus by Jack Brown
  • Model Village (2024) by Angelina May Davis
  • Rest after weariness (2023) by Sophie Dickinson
  • Adams Hill & Untitled by Lewis Graham
  • Jive Ass Jim Crow Gotta Go (2022) & Being Watched By The Overseer (2022) by Dapper Bruce Lafitte
  • Untitled. Laser No.7 by David Penny
  • Manchester Hacienda (1993), Blackpool Lucy’s Bar (1991), and Colin at FLESH in Manchester (1993) by Stuart Linden Rhodes
  • ZyclongasMaus (2023) by Dale Christopher Wells

Since 2017, The Manchester Contemporary Art Fund has raised over £86,000 and donated 38 pieces of artwork to the Manchester Art Gallery.
