Gig preview: Arctic Monkeys @ Manchester Arena

By Emily Wolstencroft

When Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys announced their UK tour promoting fifth studio album AM, fans showed their dedication by setting their alarms early to get their mitts on, now sold-out, Manchester tickets.

Playing the Manchester Arena in October, fans of the indie rockers are set to be treated to a hit-filled set list from their upcoming album while enjoying older classics.

This is not the first time Alex Turner and his troop have experienced rapid acceleration into success – their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not remains the fastest-selling album by a UK group.

However the calmer and slower pace from their fourth album Suck It And See hasn’t seemed to slow down the band’s animalistic passion despite the contrast to the early beginnings of the Arctic Monkey’s distinctive sound.

Their headlining spot at Glastonbury last week gave fans a glimpse of the enormity of what they should be expecting when they perform to the 21,000 capacity show in Manchester later this year.

Latest releases R U Mine and Do I Wanna Know?  from their forthcoming album AM have already set the tone for its release on September 9, proving they aren’t just monkeying around when it comes to producing hit records for their fans.

And representing this side of the Pennines, renowned Mancunian poet John Cooper Clarke’s work features on I Wanna Be Yours.

Many fans were left disappointed as tickets sold out within minutes, but if you are one of the lucky few with a precious golden ticket, it promises to be one hell of a gig.

Arctic Monkeys will play Manchester Arena on October 23.
