Cult horror director Rob Zombie’s latest grisly outing The Lords of Salem gets UK Northern premiere in Manchester

By Ed Owen

Rob Zombie is back with his fifth full-length movie and Manchester has the rare chance to get an early sneak preview on the big screen this Saturday.

The Lords of Salem sees the cult director turn his attention to the subject of witches – and while the film will be getting a limited cinema release in the UK, Grimm Up North are proudly screening the Northern Premiere at the Dancehouse Theatre in Manchester.

Genre fanatics will have the chance to win a sense-sharpening state-of-the-art cinema system if they pre-book to see the special premiere on April 20.

Zombie has already carved a bloody name for himself in the horror genre with the ultra-violent The Devil’s Rejects and even a controversial remake of the classic Halloween.

“Grimm Up North are proud to be presenting the Northern UK premiere of Rob Zombie’s hotly anticipated new movie The Lords of Salem at Manchester’s Dancehouse,” said festival director Simeon Halligan.

“As the film is getting a somewhat limited theatrical release, we urge fans of Rob’s work to join us for one of the few UK big screen outings.

“And if you pre-book a ticket for the screening, you could win a home cinema system and you get free entry into our Salem afterparty at Fab café – what more could you want for £7.00!”

The film tells the tale of radio DJ and Salem resident – played by the director’s wife Sheri Moon Zombie – who receives a mysterious box containing a record, a ‘gift from the lords.’

The record makes her experience flashbacks of the Massachusetts town’s violent past – Salem was infamous for its witch hunts – making her question her sanity.

Described by film critics as reminiscent of early John Carpenter flicks, Zombie’s film comes highly recommended as an unconventional and visceral experience – perfect for horror hounds.

Playing before the horror maestro’s film will be new highly-regarded short film Run, from Manchester director Matt Johns.

Shot in four days for Filmonik Halloween KinoKabaret 2012 and featuring Stephen Fry among its fans, Run is the haunting tale of a homesick backpacker writing a letter home.

Already an internet sensation and receiving valuable international acclaim, it promises to be the chilling starter to Zombie’s schlocky, visceral main course.
