Buy Art Fair: Old Granada Studios will be ‘perfect home’ for biggest art fair outside London, says show boss

The UK’s biggest art fair outside of the capital will bring thousands of art-lovers from across the north to Manchester – and is taking up a new home this year.

Buy Art Fair and The Manchester Contemporary will be calling Old Granada Studios home from September 26 – 28.

They will bring more than £1million-worth of art from 80 national and international galleries to the city.

The fairs are now looking forward to adorning the walls of Old Granada Studios with some of the country’s most celebrated art work and realising the potential of the city’s new cultural and creative space.

Buy Art Fair and The Manchester Contemporary Managing Director Thom Hetherington hailed the event’s new residence.

He said: “We are delighted at finding such a fantastic new home for the art fairs for the next three years.

“Old Granada Studios offers the perfect scale, flexibility and city centre location to develop our art fairs alongside each other.  The Studios’ urban and creative offering presents the perfect fit with the events.

“Buy Art Fair offers high quality and accessible works, often from big name artists, whereas The Manchester Contemporary shows more challenging and conceptual work from emerging artists.”

More than 8,000 visitors are expected to attend the events, with art sales predicted to hit £500,000 over a packed weekend.

Fifty galleries from all over the UK and abroad have already signed up to exhibit at Buy Art Fair including Olivia Connelly, Atelier Rose & Gray, Art Republic and Cloud Gallery.

The venue will be seen as a fitting site given the significant role art played in the life of Granada Studios founder, Sidney Bernstein.

Bernstein was a keen art collector and his passion for the work of Chagall and Modigliani could be seen decorating the corridors of the building in order to inspire employees.
