Dinner vs time: Soup Kitchen challenge Northern Quarter to beat clock and save wallets ‘the sooner you eat’

Manchester canteen Soup Kitchen is challenging diners to ‘beat the clock’ with their new time-trialling event… and the race is on NOW.

The Northern Quarter venue is adopting a ‘the-earlier-you-come-the-less-you-pay’ policy between 5 and 7pm on Monday-Thursday nights all-summer-long.

Manager Amie Black told MM that the stopwatch-smashing slap-up dinner looks to capitalise on Soup Kitchen’s Carribean-inspired grub.

“Our chef James does really amazing Carribean food so we just wanted to push that really,” said Amie.

“There is not much competition in the Northern Quarter really and we just wanted to get it out there.”

It pays to be peckish at 5pm when main courses costs will be just a fiver.

And 50p will be added to the price of each meal every half an hour, so, in this case, the early bird definitely gets the, er, jerk chicken.

Leave it late and last-minute bites will see you paying full price.

The same goes for liquids with pints, spirits and mixers and wine also on the same time-bending scale.

The deal applies to the whole menu with the head chef’s own spin on Jamaican favourite jerk chicken, curry goat and vegetarian stew.

With Guinness & chocolate cake and sweet potato and ginger cake to savour for dessert, diners may be in less of a rush to clear their plates.
