Rosso closure: Diners react as Manchester restaurant shuts its doors

Fans of Rosso took to social media to express their sadness at the closure of Italian restaurant Rosso.

Rosso, which is co-owned by Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand, opened in 2009 and quickly become a haunt for the rich and famous, welcoming celebrities like James Cordon, Harry Styles, and David Beckham.

The abrupt closure caught some customers off-guard with one user claiming on X (formerly Twitter) the restaurant had contacted him four hours before the announcement to reconfirm his booking – and another saying staff sold a £100 gift voucher the previous night.

“A real shame!” one wrote. “But you text me at 12:30 today asking me to reconfirm my table of 8 for tomorrow? Why do that when already closed. Can I have my deposit of £160 back please.”

Others shared fond memories of the restaurant.

Paul Steele wrote: “Got engaged there, spent my fiancée’s 40th lunch there and luckily we recently went with our daughter who was 6 months along when my fiancée said “I do”. A real one off, heavenly, elegant experience that we’ve fond memories of. Tearful to see it’ll be no more.”

Jo O’Connor wrote: “Noooo! That’s sad news, always had great times and meals at Rosso! Prawns pil pil were off the chart.”

Gemma Leigh-James told Rossi: “You were my favourite place to eat in Manchester x.”

Some were more sanguine about the closure, with door staff blamed by some for the closure.
“Good riddance to you. The way you treat customers is appalling,” one wrote.

Customers seeking refunds for deposits and vouchers are encouraged to contact Rosso at [email protected].
