WATCH: 75-year-old man talks about his 100 plus pre-WW air gun collection

What started as a hobby for this Yorkshire born and bred Rodney is now his most biggest passion.

Rodney has been collecting air guns since he was 12 years old, and he now has over 100 air guns in bespoke cabinets that he has built himself.

He smiles as he remembers his mother fondly saying,“I kept badgering my mother because all the kids in my area had pistols. She let me have an air pistol when I was 12.”

Currently Rodney has over 160 air pistols that were made before the second world war and a generous amount of pre first and second world war air pistols.

He has only three or four air rifles were made after 1939. He said, “When I came out of the army in the 80s, I thought, right what kind of a hobby do I want to do and I already had 4-5 old air guns by then and it just ballooned from there.”

Rodney regularly visits Sunday flea markets and still fairs in Northern England when they still sell old militaria equipment. He said, “I used to go to junk and antique shops too. It is the mechanical parts that I like.”

He added, “When I do get an air gun, I pull it completely apart and check if anything needs replacing and I put it together then.”

Rod has lived in different parts of the world from Oman to Canada to Germany but is now in North Yorkshire with his partner.
