Wythenshawe homelessness charity marks Volunteers’ Week

A homelessness charity is appealing for volunteers to support an annual UK-wide campaign.

Emmaus South Manchester is a growing local charity which supports formerly homeless people and helps those suffering in the local area.

The Wythenshawe-based charity is now encouraging people to get involved in Volunteers’ Week 2025 – a campaign highlighting the diversity and unity of volunteer work across the UK.

Benedikt Weber, a trustee at Emmaus South Manchester, said: “My advice to other people thinking about volunteering or becoming a trustee would simply be to go for it!

“It has been highly rewarding for myself so far, I have learned an awful lot since joining and hope to continue giving back as much as possible.”

Established in 1984, Volunteers’ Week marked its 40th anniversary last year, and will return from 2 to 8 June 2025.

Emmaus South Manchester will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK.

The charity is seeking new volunteers to help within its charity shop, as van crew, as a trustee treasurer or with social media.

Gavin Bryson, Operations Manager at Emmaus South Manchester, said: “Volunteers bring a richness to our charity that cannot be quantified. We’re very grateful to all who volunteer in support of Emmaus and encourage anyone interested in volunteering to visit our Wythenshawe Emporium or website for more information.”

Emmaus South Manchester is currently also raising the funds needed to open an Emmaus community to help people who experience homelessness.

Currently there are 30 Emmaus communities across the country – supporting more than 850 formerly homeless people.
