Second Salford shooting: Man chased through streets then shot in buttocks

A man was chased then shot in the buttocks in Salford on Sunday night – the second shooting in three days.

The 21-year-old victim was chased by a gun-toting offender along Great Clowes Street, Higher Broughton, before being shot twice from behind on the stretch of Curzon Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a gunman exited a dark coloured vehicle at 11.30pm in order to pursue the victim on foot before landing two bullets in his buttock and thigh.

The victim was rushed to hospital after suffering non-fatal wounds where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Superintendent Mark Kenny said: “An investigation is ongoing in relation to this incident. We have additional dedicated patrols in the Higher Broughton area and a number of detectives are investigating the incident. It does not appear to be a random attack.

“If anyone saw a dark coloured vehicle in the area around the time of the incident or if anyone has any information about who may be involved, I would ask that you call police in confidence.”

Late yesterday evening officers arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder who remains in custody for questioning.

However, police believe that at least two people were seen fleeing the area in a dark vehicle after the attack.

Superintendent Kenny said: “At this stage, we do not believe that this incident is connected to shots that were fired on Coronation Street in Salford on Friday evening however, I would ask that anyone with information about either incident gets in touch with police urgently.”

Police are still appealing for witnesses to come forward and any further information.

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 5351 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
