Mancunians gather in Piccadilly Gardens to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III

Hundreds of Mancunians gathered in Piccadilly Gardens to watch the live Coronation ceremony of King Charles III on the huge screen.

Spectators in their droves were wearing red, white and blue and holding flags. Young kids were the most excited, with huge smiles on their faces. Some had flags painted on their faces, and joined in with the crowd singing “God Save the King”.

There were also international students ad visitors travelled to UK to watch the ceremony.

Luiza, from Portugal, said: “I enjoy learning more about the British culture through this event!”

She and her friends arrived early today. All of them were holding a British flag to celebrate the big day.

They came from different European countries to learn English in Manchester.

People started to cheer while the crown was on the King’s head, celebrating the historical moment.

Alex, from Ukraine, said: “It is exciting to watch this once-in-a-lifetime event.

“I was waiting for the coronation for so long. It is part of the British cultures that I am always interested in.”

Among the crowd was a couple visiting from Hong Kong. They didn’t know much about the Coronation, but they thought it was too important to miss.

This isn’t the only public celebration of the Coronation taking place in Manchester today, as many will be taking part in the Big Help Out over the weekend.
