Missing: Fears grow for Manchester girl, 13, last seen heading off with older man in city centre

The search is on for a missing 13-year-old girl after she was last seen heading off with an older man in Manchester city centre.

UPDATE: Tanisha has now been found safe and well.

Tanisha Day has not been seen since 12.20 in the early hours of this morning on Jutland Street near the junction with Ducie Street before walking off along Rochdale Canal with the unknown man.

Two of Tanisha’s friends tried to follow her but were halted by another man and lost track of the youngster – she has not been spotted since.

Inspector Neil McClure said: “Tanisha is just 13 years old and has been missing overnight so we are obviously concerned for her safety.

“We have been able to establish that she went off with a man who appeared to be considerably older and this has added to our worry as we simply don’t know who this person is and what his motivation for going off with her might be.”

The 13-year-old, who had earlier been in Piccadilly Gardens near to the big wheel around 11pm, is described as black, 5ft 2in tall, of slim build, with black ‘afro’ hair and when she was last seen she was wearing a plain black v-neck vest, grey jeans and maroon/red plimsolls with gold writing on.

The older man that Tanisha was last seen with is said to be of mixed race, in his 20s, 5ft 9in tall with a bald head and wearing a grey jumper with red, black and white writing on and red ‘chinos’ and red Nike trainers.

While the man who prevented Tanisha’s friends from tracking her is also believed to be of mixed race, with shoulder length dreadlocks, 6ft 3in tall and wearing a shiny black tracksuit and who was riding a black/blue/white mountain bike.

“Were you in Piccadilly Gardens last night and do you recognise the description of the two men? If so, please call us,” said Inspector McClure.

“Also, if you know where Tanisha is, we would urge you to call us immediately.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3871.
