‘Hounded’ out of Salford: Knife-point mugging forces ‘terrified’ woman to ditch city

A 23-year-old woman was left so ‘traumatised’ after a blade was held to her cheek during a mugging on Saturday that she no longer wants to live in Salford.

The incident occured on the pathway leading to Sainsbury’s car park on Regent Road between 6.30 and 6.40am, when two man attacked the woman while she was walking to work.

She was grabbed by the arm and neck, before one of her assailants held a ‘blade or sharp object’ to her cheek and threatened to cut her if she screamed. Bravely, she screamed for help anyway, and was pushed to floor.

A passer-by noticed what was going on and ran towards the scene. The thieves panicked and fled, making off with her mobile phone and rucksack.

But the episode has shaken the victim so badly that she feel she can no longer live in Salford.

GMP Constable Stephen Hough said: “I have spoken to this young woman, who as you can well imagine is both extremely shocked and fearful having been subjected to such an ordeal.

“So traumatised is she that she no longer wants to be in this area of Salford and to be hounded out of her own town by two thugs is totally unacceptable and we won’t stand for it.

“That is why I’m appealing to anyone who either witnessed this incident itself, or saw between two and four men hanging around the Regent Retail Park at about the time of the robbery to come forward.”

The first offender is described as white, with very pale skin, 17-18-years-old and about 170cm tall. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a blue Puffa-style jacket, grey jogging pants and a grey hooded top under his jacket.

The second man was taller than the first, with broad shoulders and had his face covered with only his eyes visible. He was wearing a cap and jacket.

It is possible that two other men may also have been involved.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
