NHS services for victims of domestic abuse are not fit for purpose, according to a survivor and leading Manchester figure.
Kate Beesley, author of Domestic Abuse Breakthrough Formula, criticised the lack of resources given to the health service and the poor public awareness of the facilities.
A nationwide survey found almost three-quarters of the public were unaware the NHS offered specialist services for vulnerable people.
Added to this Beesley said the NHS should be making earlier interventions to stem the tide of violence at home.
The interview comes as on 7th February 2022 NHS England announced a £20 million funding boost for sexual assault and domestic violence services over the next three years.
The funds will go towards offering confidential specialist, practical, medical and emotional support to anyone who has been sexually assaulted or abused.
Domestic violence surged during the first lockdown in March 2020, according to the ONS.
At the start of the pandemic Refuge, a charity supporting victims of domestic abuse, saw a 49 per cent rise in daily helpline calls.
