Home invasion rapist: Arrest made after GMP appeal for attacker of two mums

Police investigating the rape and an attempted rape of two mothers in Failsworth and Newton Heath have made an arrest.

Shortly after 4.40am this morning police received a report of the attempted rape of a 24-year-old woman, whilst she was asleep in bed with her young son, at her home in Newton Heath.

The man fled the house after the victim’s boyfriend disturbed him.

Soon after, at about 7am this morning, police received a report that a 33-year-old woman had been raped and assaulted at her home in Failsworth.

The woman, who is currently in hospital being treated for serious injuries, was with her baby at the time but the child suffered no injuries.

Police have now arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the offences.

Detective Inspector Chris Flint of North Manchester division said: “I would like to thank the local community for the support they have provided during this investigation.

“Officers made an arrest this afternoon in Manchester city centre and he remains in police custody for questioning.”
