Top hats: Coronation Street stars support brain injury charity with peculiar headwear

Coronation Street stars Ben Price and Jack P. Shepherd are tipping their hats in support of brain charity Headway and will be donning wacky and extravagant headwear to raise funds this Friday.

Hats 4 Headway Day is urging people to send in photos of themselves wearing peculiar hats in exchange for a donation to the charity, which provides support and advice to brain injury suffers and their families.

The pair, who play Nick Tilsley and David Platt in the soap, are fronting the campaign which they hope is a fun way to raise money and awareness and also encourage people to take part in a great cause.

“At Headway, we help people to rebuild their lives following brain injury,” said spokesperson, Luke Griggs.

“But we can only do this with the support of the public, whose generous donations help us to keep our services running.

“So please, find your fedoras or buy yourself a bowler and help us by taking part in Hats for Headway Day.”

Headway are hoping to use the donations to expand their frontline services which work to improve the lives of people who have suffered brain injuries.

Currently they have 100 branches across the UK which provide support, advice and information to brain injury suffers and their families.

However, Mr Griggs also hopes Hats 4 Headway Day will help highlight the significance of a brain injury and how it can happen to anyone.

“A brain injury can happen to anyone at any time and the effects can be devastating,” he said.

“It can change personalities and futures in an instant, with families and relationships changed forever.”

For the first time this year there will also be a prize for the best headwear, with a book and a signed DVD from Headway Vice President James Cracknell on offer for the winner.

To take part in the competition simply take a photo of yourself and friends wearing a hat and send your photos to Andrew Taylor at [email protected] by Friday May 23 along with a donation at https://www.headway.org.uk/donate.aspx
