‘Huge potential’: Manchester teen trio selected for England Alpine Ski Squad

Though the North West is famed for churning out summer Olympic medallists, it has never been known for producing Winter Olympic talent.

That could all be about to change, as three Manchester teens have been selected for the England Alpine Ski Squad.

Salford’s Oliver Pollitt (above right), 12, and Rochdale’s Daisi Daniels (above left) and Milly Cowell (above middle) from Hyde, both 14, have been chosen to represent the England Under-14 Alpine Ski Squad for the 2016/17 winter season.

All three skiers will be looking to spend as much time on-snow as possible this winter, before the busy UK racing season this summer.

Tim Fawke, chief executive of Snowsport England and British Ski and Snowboard Board director, told MM: “All three of them have shown huge potential in terms of what they can do going forward.

“It is exciting times for those three.”

The athletes are all sponsored by Chill Factore, a Manchester-based indoor ski and snowboard centre.

“They do quite a bit to support the up-and-coming athlete which is much appreciated from ourselves as a governing body,” said Fawke.

“It gives athletes a great opportunity to train across disciplines on both the freestyle and alpine side,” he added of the site, which boasts the longest indoor ski slope in the country.
