Charity campaign appeals for donations of warm winter coats for refugees

A campaign to donate unwanted winter coats has been launched by Care4Calais, a charity working with refugees in France and Belgium.

Care4Calais aims to provide each and every refugee with a warm coat this winter.

As the weather gets colder, people are being urged to give away their unused and unwanted coats to someone who is a much greater need of it.

Clare Moseley, the founder of Care4Calais, said: “Refugees come to Calais with nothing but the clothes on their back.

“They’re people just like you and I, who have had to flee wars and persecution that threatened their homes and families.

“Now they face a freezing winter without enough clothes to keep warm.

If you have a had clear out over lockdown and want to donate your coat as well as other winter clothing such as socks, hats and gloves then head to any of the four drop-off sites in Manchester listed below.

Ancoats: 27 Simpson St, Manchester M4 4GB

Withington: Heaton Rd, Withington, Manchester M20

Please ensure your donations are clearly marked ‘Care4Calais’ on all sides as some locations help other charities as well.

Clare Moseley also said: “Donating a coat, or some money, to Care4Calais will help a vulnerable refugee stay warm this winter.

“For people who have endured so much, small acts of kindness make the biggest difference.”
