MM’s Year in Review: April

Prime Minister fined: Boris Johnson (the then Prime Minister) was given a fixed-penalty notice for breaking Covid-19 lockdown rules in the ongoing Partygate scandal. He subsequently apologised in the House of Commons for his actions but did say: “It did not occur to me then or subsequently that a gathering in the cabinet room…could amount to a breach of the rules.”

Fury KOs Whyte: Tyson Fury made his homecoming appearance in front of a packed out Wembley stadium when he defended his WBC crown against domestic rival Dillain Whyte. After 4 years away from fighting in the UK, he came back with a 6th round upper-cut which floored Whyte giving Fury the TKO victory.

Macron wins re-election: French President Emmanuel Macron wins re-election against far-right leader Marine Le Pen. Macron became the first sitting French president to do so since Jacques Chirac in 2002.

Tory porn scandal: Neil Parish had the Conservartive whip withdrawn after being accused of watching porn in the Commons. The claim came from a group of female MPs who said they saw a male watching pornography in the Commons, it was later found to be Neil Parish who had stated in an interview earlier in the week that the MP should be: “dealt with and dealt with seriously”.

City’s semi-final misery: Liverpool FC beat Manchester City 3-2 in the FA cup semi-final at Wembley sending them crashing out of the FA Cup. Liverpool took the lead early with 3 first-half goals from Mane and Konate, two strikes from Grealish and De Bruyne were not enough to keep them in the competition.
