MM’s Year in Review: June

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – A four-day bank holiday weekend from 3rd-5th June 2022 marked the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II. She took to the throne on the 6th of February 1952 and became the first British monarch to celebrate this milestone. 

Overturning Roe v Wade – On 24th June 2022, the American Supreme court overturned Roe V Wade, a legislation created to grant all US citizens the federal right to an abortion. Abortion is now banned in at least 13 states in America, with more banning abortion at the six-week mark.  

Lewis Hamilton’s second podium – The 7-time world champion gained his first podium since March during the Canadian Grand Prix on the 19th of June. Collecting only 2 podiums as of June 2022, makes this the worst start to an F1 season for Hamilton since he joined F1 in 2007.  

Record Breaking Glastonbury – The Glastonbury festival had a record-breaking year in 2022 in terms of digital streaming. Streams increased by 115% on BBC I Player and 205% on BBC Sounds compared to the last time the festival took place in 2019.

Depp’s victory against Heard – Johnny Depp won his defamation case against Amber Heard in which she claimed to be a victim of domestic abuse. Depp denied abusing Heard and won £12 million in compensatory and punitive damages after the trial.
