‘He was my best friend’: Stars to fundraise for brain tumour charity in Corrie icon’s name

Legendary Coronation Street star Bill Tarmey will be remembered at a star studded bash to raise cash for the brain tumour charity supporting his son since his diagnosis six years ago.

Coronation Street stars past and present are attending the fundraising event tomorrow night.

Liz Dawn, Bill Roache, Alan Halsall and wife Lucy Jo Hudson and Jennie McAlpine are just a few of the stars attending the event for charity Brain Tumour Research.

The event will be a bitter sweet eveing for Bill Tarmey’s son, Carl Piddington, and brother, Alan Cleworth.

Alan, from Altrincham, said: “He wasn’t only my brother he was my best friend and the whole family was devasted by it.”

Entertainment will be provided by X-Factor stars, Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan and her son Shane Ritchie Jr.

Bill, who played Jack Duckworth in the Manchester-based soap opera, died aged 71 from a heart attack in 2012.

He had been with the show for more than 30 years.

When Bill’s son was diagnosed with a brain tumour six years ago. the 49-year-old was told he only had up to five years left but thankfully his condition is now believed to be stable.

He is still under the watchful eye of hospital medics.

But his uncle said: “He’s had treatment but he has never been given the all clear.”

Carl has had two operations and has been living ‘under scrutiny’ from the hospitals care ever since.

The last fundraiser, which was held two years ago, featured similar stars, with Bill Roache unavailabe to attend due to an on-going court case at the time.

The night will be hosted at Village Urban Resort, previously De Vere Village Hotel Manchester Ashton, and all profits made on the night will go towards Brain Tumour Research.
