Food charity sets up takeaway service to support people in need

FoodCycle, a charity which fights food poverty and loneliness, has launched a ‘Cook and Collect’ service to provide free meals to vulnerable people.

The charity works across Greater Manchester to provide food during the current national lockdown.

Under the new restrictions, members of the community can collect hot meals for themselves and their households from three locations in the area.

Before the pandemic, the charity ran dine-in meals but has adapted to protect the welfare of guests and volunteers and continue providing an essential service.

Many guests rely on FoodCycle’s weekly meals, with 68% reporting they worry that they cannot afford to live and 80% who attended with children reporting that they have skipped meals this year because they could not afford or access food.

Volunteers from the Prestwich branch spoke to us about the project.
