Arrests made in hunt for two men who were released from Salford prison van by masked gang

Two people have been arrested following the escape of the prisoner duo who were sprung from a van on Regent Road in Salford this morning.

A 28-year-old woman and 24-year-old man were detained at a house on the Ordsall estate on suspicion of being involved in assisting an offender.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and the man was also arrested on suspicion of possessing class A drugs and breaching a court order.

They remain in police custody for questioning.

Ryan MacDonald and Stevie McMullen remain on the run, after their prison van was ambushed by at least three men wearing balaclavas and armed with a shotgun at around 9am.

Some of the men escaped in a Saab, others fled on a motorbike.
