Top six apps for smarter travel in Greater Manchester

Whether you are travelling to Greater Manchester or a resident, you can get help from transportation apps to make your journey more accessible.

Bee Network

With the newly launched Bee Network application, you can follow live departures for the local buses and trams all over Greater Manchester, scroll through the ticket options and purchase bus and tram tickets.

You can also check the live timetable of train stations in the app, but you cannot buy train tickets. Another interesting feature of the app is rating your journey, which helps improve future services.

Stagecoach

With the Stagecoach app, you can access a live bus map all over Greater Manchester. Entering the bus number, you can track your bus and its estimated arrival time and check if there is a delay. A coloured traffic light on the map shows whether your bus is busy based on the estimated number of passengers at the time.

As well as buying your ticket in advance, you can send a ticket to another person with the app.

Beryl

If you are a fan of a green transportation system, you can use the yellow bikes and e-bikes of the Bee Network Cycle Hire across Greater Manchester by installing Beryl. With Beryl, you can find the nearest bikes/e-bikes on the map, unlock the bikes and start riding.

Beryl has different payment schemes. If you are a regular user, you can buy minute Bundles upfront and save or pay as you ride.

Lime

If your journey is limited to the Salford area and you have a driving license, then you are in luck: you can use Lime e-scooters. These e-scooters can be used between the University of Salford, Salford Quays and up to the boundary with the city of Manchester. Installing the Lime app, you can find the nearest e-scooters, scan the QR code of the device, and ride it. You can also have a group ride with your friends, and there is a LimePrime for those who use the e-scooters regularly.

Bolt

If you want to ride in a car, Bolt could be your option besides Uber. Bolt has many available drivers around Greater Manchester, and its pricing at some points is marginally cheaper than Uber. Also, Bolt drivers are charged a lower commission rate than Uber, and the base fee for the riders is also cheaper. To use the service, you just have to install the application and enter your information.

Citymapper

Citymapper has everything you need to plan a journey in Greater Manchester. With this application, you can locate the nearest buses, trams, trains, bikes, scooters, cabs, etc. Enter your departure and destination location in the app and see many journey options with the estimated time and cost.
