Stockport celebrated its sixth Pride since it began in 2017 on Sunday 1 June, with crowds getting together to march the streets despite the bad weather.
Stockport’s parade this year was particularly focused on trans rights after the Supreme Court ruled in April that ‘sex’ means biological sex.
The ruling is particularly contentious as it is said to exclude transgender people from sex discrimination protections and conflicts with human rights laws.
Aaron Holmes-Doyle, Volunteer Coordinator at Stockport Pride said: “You should be accepted for who you are.
“Everyone is welcome to be who they are, whether that’s gay, lesbian, trans, whatever, everyone is welcome to be whoever they want to be.”
Taking place primarily in Stockport’s Historic Market Place, the town centre was home to a range of LGBTQ+ speakers and acts throughout the day, including previous LGBTQ+ advisor to Andy Burnham, Carl Austin Behan OBE DL.
