Benchwarmer Scott Sinclair certainly ain’t no Manchester City flop, insists former teammate Neil Taylor

By Colin Henrys

Bench-warming Manchester City winger Scott Sinclair was right to join the Blues, according to former team mate Neil Taylor.

Sinclair signed from Swansea City in August for a reported £6.2 million but has played just 15 times since – starting on just three occasions.

But former Swansea and Team GB teammate Taylor believes the pacey winger made the right decision moving to the Etihad.

“I’m sure he was aware when he signed that he wasn’t going to play the same amount of games he did for Swansea last season,” Taylor told Wales Online.

“Manchester City came in and wanted to buy him, so that told him that they wanted him.

“There was the promise of Champions League football and he was bought for a big sum of money, so it seemed they had big plans for him if they were spending that money.

“But for him, he’s challenging himself at the top level so no-one can begrudge him that.”

City travel to South Wales to face Swansea on Saturday – a repeat of the fixture the hosts won last year despite Sinclair missing a penalty.

With David Silva, Samir Nasri and James Milner all fit and City still looking to secure second place in the league, Sinclair is not expected to play.

However Taylor – who should feature for the Swans after returning from eight months out injured – urged the Blues faithful to be patient with the 24-year-old.

“It hasn’t worked out for him but that’s why he’s got the length of contract that he has, to try and break into the side,” he said.

“People have begrudged him his move but he’s tried it at the highest level.

“The amount of quality they have at Manchester City is unbelievable and perhaps they haven’t had the injuries to other players which might have given him a chance.

“Things like that happen but he’s got plenty of time to break in.”
