‘There’s more to come’: Manchester Giants continue search for stars as they unveil squad for new campaign

By David Aspinall

Manchester Giants have announced their first signings of the summer, ahead of the start of the new  British Basketball League season.

Club captain James Jones, Stefan Gill, David Watts and veteran Mike Bernard return from last season’s squad.

A new addition is Stockport-born guard Keith Page who, at 6’3”, has previous BBL experience following spells with the Cheshire Jets and Durham Wildcats.

Giant’s basketball director Graham Hertsell said: “We understand fans have been eager for news ahead of the new season and with our first five players now in place, we will announce more as quickly as possible.”

The Gorton-based team are looking to further add to their roster before the basketball season starts on Friday September 27.

The Giants open their campaign with an away trip to the capital to face London Lions.

Their first home game of the season, at Wright Robinson Sports College, comes when they host Sheffield Sharks on Sunday September 29.

The Giants returned to the BBL last season after an 11-year hiatus and finished ninth in the 12 team league after recording 12 victories.

In an effort to boost attendances to somewhere near their late 1990’s high of almost 15,000, season tickets are available at a 40% discount until 5pm on Monday September 9.
