Have Man City got their transfers right so far this summer?

In the English Premier League, the period between the 10th of June and the 1st of September is always fascinating for the teams competing and all fans.

This season’s summer transfer window is still open, and significant changes have already occurred in many English Premier League clubs, even though the window stays open until the 1st of September.

It’s been a busy window for City, with multiple big names coming in and going out.

Two of City’s forwards – Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus – have moved to big six rivals Chelsea and Arsenal respectively and the club also lost midfield stalwart Fernandinho on a free transfer.

So far this summer, Manchester City have brought in three players and these are Erling Haaland, Stefan Ortega, and Kalvin Phillips.

City’s summer transfer window – signing Erling Haaland

As revealed in June by Manchester City officials, Erling Haaland is the team’s big name summer signing.

The Norwegian superstar forward signed a five-year contract which means he stays with the Sky Blues until 2027 unless something significant happens and he decides to leave prematurely.

He joined Norwegian club Bryne back in 2016 before moving to Molde in 2017.

Haaland’s career exploded after he joined Red Bull Salzburg in 2019, before spending two seasons with Borussia Dortmund.

The Premier League season kicks off on the 5th of August, and Haaland will make his Premier League debut for the Sky Blues two days later in their opening fixture against West Ham.

Haaland is often regarded as one of the best young footballers, alongside equally impressive Kylian Mbappe.

It also seems that the City’s style matches Haaland’s style, and he discussed this in one of his recent interviews after his transfer was confirmed.

Haaland is one of the most prominent young talents in football today, and the team’s officials are delighted to have him on board.

With this being said, we can say with certainty that Manchester City got it right by signing Haaland.

Once again, Manchester City decided to dig deep into the transfer market instead of relying on their own youth academy, which may prove to be another brilliant move or a complete disaster should the newcomers fail to live up to the expectations.

Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega also joined the team

As revealed on the official Manchester City website, Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega are also new Manchester City players.

Phillips started his senior career in 2014 when he was signed by Leeds United.

In 214 appearances, the defensive midfielder scored 13 goals for Leeds, before joining City in a six-year deal worth over £45 million.

In their final move of the summer so far, goalkeeper Stefan Ortega joined Manchester City from Arminia Bielefeld.

He signed a three-year deal with the team and joins current keepers Ederson, Arijanet Muric, Scott Carson, and Zack Steffen.

It’s unclear what his role will be – whether or not he will supplant Steffen as City’s second choice behind Ederson remains to be seen.
